Lapis Lazuli is mined in Badakshan, in North-East Afghanistan.It is found in the Blue Mountain at Sar-i-Sang in the Kotcha Vallery, where it has been mined for over 6000 years. Lapis is a mineral made up of Lazurite, calcite, and pyrite. The less calcite and more Lazurite, the better quality the Lapis.

Over It’s history, Lapis has been used for a vaiety of uses. The original Ten Commandment were reputedly carved on a Lapis tablets. For Egyptians, Lapis was the stone of truth, and jugess would alwyas wear a piece when passing sentence. Lapis has also been used in the making of Ultramarine paint. , This Lapis specimen has a great colour and is cut and polished. Weight 8.2kg, height 34cm. £850.
